On a day when the weather was again a factor, the Corning Race Team made the trek to the Constellation Brands Bristol Mountain Road Race. Held on a 17-mile loop course with two brutal climbs, this early season race is often a test of strength and early season fitness. Add in wind with gusts up to 60 miles per hour and chilly temperatures, and you have a very tough race! All-in-all, 9 riders made the race and came out with 4 top-ten finishes. The best of the day was Bruce Rohdenburg, who put together a solid 3rd place finish in a bunch sprint in the Masters 45+ field. One rider had soloed to the victory, just seconds before the group. Bruce did a lot of work out front during the race in addition to his fine sprint. In the Women's Cat 4 race, Jill Wood was in great position heading into the final lap, but suffered a dropped chain heading into the last big climb. She was strong enough to battle back for a 4th place finish even with the adversity she experienced. Ruth Sherman was in a very difficult Womens Pro/1/2/3 race that ended with a small group, where she was also fourth.
Across the other races, Dan Hertzler came up with a 9th place finish and Matt Tammaro was 14th in the Cat 3 race of 51 miles. Early in the race, Dan was putting in a lot of work on a breakaway attempt, and came in among a fragmented finish. New racer Dane Jack, put in a fine 11th place performance in the Cat 5 race. Steve Burdette (29th), Brian Jones (31st), and Bobby Nunnink (32nd) all battled hard in the largest field of the day, the Cat 4 Men's race. Brian Klotz came up with the sole team DNF in the Men's Pro/1/2 race after a flat tire on the 3rd of 4 laps.
Overall, another consistent weekend of performances by the team. Great job to all!
